What makes our collectible Die Cast models?

Produced in the early 20th century, Die Cast models refer to any toy or collectible items produced by using the die casting method. The models are made from metal with plastic, rubber or glass detailing. In the past, the metal that was widely used for cast metal toys was a lead alloy. Mazak (or Zamak) which is an alloy of zinc with small quantities of copper and aluminium is the commonly used metal of choice today. Die Cast toys increased in popularity as collectibles in the 1950's, as their detail and quality improved.

We stock a variety of popular, collectible Die Cast scale models including Britain's Farm 1/32nd scale farm models, Corgi collectible model cars, trucks, planes, and toys, Siku Die cast cars, vehicles and farm models. We also carry W Britain 1:32 scale collectable figures and accessories.

A leading model railway stockist

Bourton Model Railways are a leading model railway stockist to many highly collectible brands such as Corgi, Backmann, Hornby, Scalextric, Fleischmann, Graham Farish, Burago, Airfix, Dapol, Roco and many more.

Why do we love Hornby?

Hornby is by far the leading brand of model railways in the United Kingdom. Dating back to 1901 when founder Frank Hornby received a patent for his Meccano construction toy. In 1920 the first clockwork train was produced, in 1938 Hornby's first 00 gauge train was launched and in the 1980's Hornby Railways became independent. Their products have been highly collectible since the 1940's with the Hornby Railway Collector's Association catering for these Hornby model railway enthusiasts.

We stock a whole range of quality Hornby products including Hornby tracks, British 00 Start Sets, digital controls, locomotives, coaches, wagons, buildings and the much loved Thomas The Tank Engine products.

Corgi: A family favourite

Corgi is the name of a specialist range of Die-Cast models. Producing an assortment of aviation models, trucks, cars, old school collectible items and Toys. Corgi's famous model vehicles capture the imagination of children and adults.

Their products are now highly sought-after in the expanding collectables market with some mint condition Corgi products now fetching hundreds of pounds. Today, the majority of Corgi models are produced as limited editions and often snapped up within weeks of release.

The name Corgi was chosen for three main reasons; it was short and catchy, the Corgi Welsh dog had a strong connection with the Royal Family and the models were produced in Swansea with the first Corgi models appearing in 1956. Corgi's best known model was the James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 first produced in 1965 featuring front-mounted machine guns and an ejector seat. This model won Corgi the UK toy company of the year, and was the toy to have in the mid-sixties.

Bachmann: Born from a love for the American railroads

Bachmann began in 1833 in America by Henry Carlisle who was a manufacturer of products made from horn, ivory and tortoise shell. The business then merged with a German immigrant named Henry G. Bachmann in 1899.

The Kader company began working with the Bachmann company in 1948 with the purpose of making models and toys for export around the world. The first model trains captured the American market in 1952 and continued to prosper until 1984 when Kadar acquired the Bachmann company in its entirety and Bachmann Industries was set up in England during 1989.

The Bachmann group continued to grow and the British 'N' scale manufacturer Graham Farish was purchased by Bachmann Europe plc in the year 2000. Kader is now the largest manufacturer of Model Railways in the world.

Bachmann aims to help the modeller by providing model railway enthusiasts true to life and true to scale models that reproduce the realism of railways from yesteryear and today in miniature form. Bourton Model Railway stocks a range of Bachmann products ranging from buildings and accessories, coaches, digital sets and accessories, locomotives and wagons.
